Knee Implants

Knees can be damaged due to various reasons such as aging, obesity, arthritis, rheumatism, developmental abnormalities, injury, bone death, and more. If you have mobility issues or difficulty in climbing stairs, and getting up from the chair, your doctor may recommend knee surgery. In knee replacement surgery, the surgeon resurfaces the damaged bones with artificial implants made of plastic, metal, ceramic, and more. Knee surgery aims to ease pain, improve mobility and quality of life.

There are 4 types of knee replacements namely,
  • Total knee replacement
  • Partial Knee replacement
  • Kneecap replacement & etc.
In a total knee replacement, your surgeon will resurface the femur, patella, and tibia bones. The cartilage between the femur and tibia bone may be replaced with a plastic cushion. Your surgeon will decide on the type of knee replacement based on the extent of knee damage, your age, medical history, lifestyle, and overall health.
